On the 32nd anniversary of the legendary 5/9/77 show, I was really taken by the ferocity and balls the band showed tonight at the Forum.

1st set says it all:

Viola Lee Blues>
Bertha>
Viola Lee Blues>
Caution>
Viola Lee Blues>
Black Peter>
Cosmic Charlie

The resurrection of Viola Lee has given THIS band its identity and it has carved out a niche for Warren Haynes.........IMHO.

BTW, the second set was good too.

This show was deep. I didn't stop dancing from the first to the last note of each set. Every song melted into the next very nicely. At times I could not believe my ears. There was transitioning like I had never experienced (especially during a first set). Viola Lee Blues>Black Peter>Cosmic Charlie. It was pure essense of continuity.

what, no Viola reprise in the second set?

Thanks for the posts. I saw the setlists and was hoping to get some feedback from this gig.

I'll tell ya, I kind of was expecting them to go into a Viola Lee reprise after Satisfaction :-)

It really would have tied the show up into a nice neat package. But a Great show none the less.

Thought it was a pretty epic show. The boys are really hitting their stride. Warren really fits with the band. I haven't seen any other shows to compare, but have to say that with what I saw last night, he was the perfect choice. The first set with a manic Viola Lee Blues really lifted the roof. No laid back playing at all. Transitions were pretty tidy as well, unlike what I have heard from other venues. Caution is always great.

Second set started off with a crowd pleasing Shakedown Street. Scarlet Begonias>Fire was great. The middle smoothed out with a nice mellow Dark Star>Wharf Rat (first time this tour)>Dark Star. Not one for the ages, but nicely played. Encore had to be One More Saturday Night and was well received.

I've been following the back and forth and don't post often or with much detail, but was really blown away by the energy, sound and set list. Not to create too much controversy, but it really was a Grateful Dead concert. Don't know if I'm prepared for the fallout, but the opinion of a Deadhead who has been listening and following since '68.

Awesome show! Probably because it was my birthday. Very tight from where I was sitting. Glad I got to see a Dark Star on my birthday!
